by Nicole Baptista
If you are learning French, one of the best ways to pick up language learning tips and valuable information is to read some French language blogs.
French blogs can provide you with information about French culture, history, grammar tips,as well as guides on the best French movies and podcasts for you to listen to. And the best part is that they are completely free. Whether you are an advanced learner, or just starting your language learning journey, blogs can be a useful tool for you.
It can be overwhelming as there are hundreds of French blogs on the internet, but thankfully for you we have compiled a list of six of the best French blogs to help you on your French language learning journey. Let’s take a look at them:
French Together is a wonderful blog for learners. It will help you with your conversational French, with posts like 25 common ways to to say “Goodbye” in French, and 9 Annoying Filler Words You Can Use to Sound More French. However, they also share blog posts on aspects of French history and French culture. This is a great blog for you to start off with. It has a very clear layout and some of their posts also include audio pronunciations so you can get used to listening to French words and sounds.
2- French Crazy
French Crazy is a goldmine for resources, (especially if you’re dreaming of living in France one day). They offer language learning support with posts like this one: 10 Ways to Agree and Disagree in French. But the best part about French Crazy is their fun content. For example, check out these posts on the best French animated movies to watch and the best French red wine varieties. If you are planning on moving to France, they have some free guides to help you with the process.
Géraldine, a French lady runs this awesome blog. Her content is always very unique and different. For example, check out her post on 5 Things You May Have Missed in Amélie (Real Spoken French). One of the best things about her blog is that she analyses spoken French and breaks it down so that learners can understand it better. She does this for the popular Netflix series “Call My Agent”.
She also discusses French stereotypes, grammar tips and has valuable tips on conversational French. Definitely check her blog out.
At French à La Carte, we are always sharing free and accessible content for our French learners on our blog. We regularly post themed vocabulary lists such as this one on French cheese (yes, the French take the topic of cheese very seriously!). But you can also pick up important tips on French grammar, French slang, and French expressions.
As a bonus, you will learn about the best things to do in Paris- why not check out the latest art scenes? Or the best places to picnic in Paris?
Alexa has very interesting and useful posts such as this one on How to Write a CV in French. The blog post even has the written text in audio form (both in French and in English) so you can practice your listening skills. Her blog includes posts on French history, language learning tips, and support if you’re planning to make a move to France. So, you have a little bit of everything!
6 - Transparent
Transparent Language also provides content on French grammar. For example, this blog post focuses on the differences between the three French verbs Aimer, Adorer and Plaire. You will also find guides on popular tourist attractions in France, such as this one for the Catacombes de Paris. But what I enjoy most about this blog is that they offer texts for reading practice like this one on recycling. If you’re feeling brave, why not try to translate the text into English?
