The 5 Best YouTube Channels To Learn French in 2023
Nicole Baptista
YouTube can be a fantastic way to supplement your French learning. Why? Because it is diverse, fun and one of the most important parts of learning a new language is to actually listen to it being spoken. This week we are sharing our 5 favorite French Youtube Channels.
YouTube is one of the biggest platforms in the world and you can find content on pretty much anything. There are many YouTubers who vlog about the French language.
You can find videos on French grammar, vocabulary, slang and curse words, aspects of French culture and history (as you can see- just about anything!). Because YouTube is such a huge platform, there are hundreds if not thousands of French YouTube channels out there. That’s why we have made your life much easier and put together a list of 5 top French YouTube channels.
YouTube offers you the option of adding the subtitles in English which can help you to follow along with the French audio. However, some of these channels thankfully already come with the subtitles in both English and French.
1- Comme Une Française
With nearly 300k subscribers, Comme Une Française is one of the most popular French YouTubers out there. Géraldine has so much useful content on her channel. She has videos on pronunciation (example: How to pronounce the French R), videos on what NOT to say in French, tips on French slang and short stories in French.
I think one of the best aspects of her channel is the more cultural content. For example she has a video where she walks through a French village and buys a baguette, and another video on how to drink wine in France, like a local. This will give you a good insight on how people do life in France!
2 - Français Avec Pierre
Français avec Pierre is a wonderful YouTube channel. Pierre has videos on French grammar, French expressions and even French tests for you to assess your understanding.
But I think the best part about his channel are his French courses (for free!) for beginners, intermediate and advanced learners. It feels like you are actually sitting in a real life lesson with a teacher (this is good if you don’t have time to actually go to a class or are still feeling a bit shy to join a French class in person.)
3 - Oh La La, I Speak French
Just like the creative name of this channel, the content is fun, engaging and informative. Soraya has content on French verbs, grammar, French expressions for travelers, swear words and even funny little series (a job interview Parisian style).
You have the subtitles in English to help you follow along. Soraya also has video content about French culture. For example: ‘What is mardi gras?’, and ‘Learning French with movies’.
4 - Easy French
Easy French is one of my favorite French YouTube channels. With almost 600k followers, Easy French is a channel where Parisians are interviewed in the streets (but also from other parts of the French speaking world). The benefit of watching this channel is that you will hear exactly how French is spoken on a daily basis.
The subjects discussed are completely random, ranging from “What’s in your fridge” to “Do French people drink too much?”. Luckily for you, the subtitles come in both English and French!
There is a specific playlist for French beginners. In these videos the French is spoken at a much slower pace.
FrenchPod101
With over a million subscribers, FrenchPod101 is one of the biggest French channels on YouTube. You can find just about everything on this channel. There are reading practices for learners of all levels, videos on vocabulary and an entire playlist on French learning strategies and tips.
Most of the videos are quite short so if you don’t have too much time to spare, this channel might be good for you. There is also a playlist called “French Holiday Words” with videos on vocabulary related to different holidays (e.g.: Christmas). You have the option to have the subtitles in English on the YouTube Settings bar.
